2/28/25 Statement from Unite Oregon

– Reps. Suzanne Bonamici of the First District, Maxine Dexter of the 3rd, Val Hoyle of the 4th District, Janelle Bynum of the 5th and Andrea Salinas of the 6th – voted against it. Unite Oregon: “The Time to act is NOW”

For the past 20 years, Unite Oregon has been fighting for social justice by empowering marginalized communities across the state—communities that have long been ignored by those in power. Through grassroots organizing, we’ve worked to create a more just and equitable Oregon for everyone, especially for immigrants, refugees, people of color, and those experiencing poverty.

But in 2025, we’re seeing a dangerous shift. The powerful aren’t just ignoring marginalized communities anymore—they are actively working to harm and divide them. Hate-filled policies, violent rhetoric, and divisive agendas are tearing at the very fabric of our society, targeting the most vulnerable among us. The systems built to oppress are doubling down, and the damage is devastating. We see you, we hear you and we’re here to help.

Today, Unite Oregon wishes to reaffirm our commitment to fight for immigrant communities and those under attack. Unite Oregon will not back down. We will not bend to the forces of hatred. We will not submit to fascist agendas. We are fighting back, and we are not afraid. We will keep pushing for a future where everyone is safe, healthy, and able to thrive—especially Black, Indigenous, immigrant and transgender communities.

At its core, Unite Oregon is committed to intercultural solidarity, building a movement that recognizes and honors the diverse experiences that make us stronger together. We understand that to achieve liberation, we must actively listen to and engage with one another, celebrating our differences while building unity through shared goals. Our fight is grounded in cultural humility and a dedication to seeing our humanity reflected in every story, every voice, and every action.

Our fight for a better Oregon is far from over. We will keep pushing for a state where everyone, regardless of background, can live freely and safely.

The time to act is NOW.

We can’t wait for change to come—we must create it ourselves. As an organization committed to change, we know the work begins with us. That’s why Unite Oregon will never stop looking inward, holding ourselves accountable, and striving to improve. We are constantly evolving to better serve our community and stay aligned with its needs.

We need your voice, your energy, and your commitment to this fight for justice. Stand with Unite Oregon as we push back against hate, defend immigrant communities, and demand Black liberation for all.

Get involved today. Whether it’s showing up at a rally, amplifying our message, donating to the cause, or simply talking to your neighbors about what’s at stake, every action counts. We are building a movement, and we need YOU in it. You can learn more about how to get involved here: https://www.uniteoregon.org/become-a-supporter

Together, we will make Oregon a place of justice and dignity for everyone. Join us, and let’s fight for a future that we can all believe in.

The systems of oppression will crumble. United, we will make them fall.
