Empowering African Women Leaders in Washington County
The African Women: Dare to Invest in Learning to Lead leadership program has been completed! Eighteen African women leaders have successfully graduated from the program, equipped with vital leadership development and advocacy skills.
The program is a partnership between Unite Oregon, African Heritage Education Empowerment Community (AFRHEEC), and Washington County and is a pilot program that aims to boost civic literacy and engagement of underrepresented communities in city government. This pioneering program's mission is clear: empowering emerging African women leaders by fostering relationships, imparting civic and political knowledge, and honing community organizing and leadership skills.
One of the key components that set the Dare to Invest in Learning to Lead program apart was its focus on fostering meaningful relationships. Participants had the opportunity to connect with mentors, fellow leaders, and industry experts, creating a supportive network that will extend beyond the program's completion. These connections are essential for not only personal growth but also for forging impactful collaborations and partnerships in the pursuit of their shared goals.
The future looks bright as these empowered women are set to create a multicultural, multiracial movement that strengthens Washington County. Unite Oregon remains committed to being a bridge, providing necessary training, and empowering immigrant, refugee, and BIPOC communities to be influential voices at the decision-making table.
