Position Description: Unite Oregon is seeking a Washington County Director to implement and manage organizing programs in Washington County, and to build power for BIPOC/Immigrant/Refugee communities. The Chapter Director will be responsible for all Washington County Chapter basic operations including staff management and support, program and campaign oversight, fundraising, strategic planning, and administration. The Washington County Chapter Director reports to the Unite Oregon Executive Director and Deputy Director.
Organizing and Community Engagement
● Based on a strategic plan, develop and implement multiple local issue campaigns, and support statewide campaigns.
● Recruit volunteers and maintain regular volunteer and leadership development opportunities (ie, regular phone banks, field activities, issue committees, etc).
● Maintain regular engagement with Washington County members.
● Coordinate and facilitate chapter Leadership Council meetings every month.
● Maintain regular communication with staff, volunteers, chapter leadership council, and members.
Broker Relationships with coalition partners and decision-makers
● Build and maintain relationships with local, statewide, and national partners to support campaigns and shift balance of power among local decision makers.
● Supervising coalition manager in strategic planning, work completion, management of norms, and running coalition in alignment with organizational mission and vision.
● Attending Steering committee meetings.
● Build and maintain relationships with elected leaders and other decision-makers.
Recruit, Train, and Support Staff, Interns, and Volunteers
● Recruit, interview, train, support, and oversee all Washington County staff, interns and volunteers.
Support Leadership Development Programs
● Aid in the recruitment of participants and process applications for each new cohort, events, and programs and assist in arranging the admissions process.
● Assure that all logistics are complete.
● Work with organizers to plan and implement curriculum.
● Assure all facilitators and interpreters get paid, and turn in necessary paperwork.
● Support direct reports in facilitation of Leadership Development Programs/events and participant follow up.
Supervisory Responsibilities
● Participates in the hiring and training of staff.
● Oversee and manage department and grant budgets.
● Organizes and oversees the work and schedules of staff.
● Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
● Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Preferred Skills and Experience
● Ability to work independently and take initiative, while maintaining solid communication with and accountability to organizational leadership and community.
● Experience working in social justice with diverse communities.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Strong conflict resolution skills.
● At least two years of experience in people management.
● At least three years of experience in grassroots community organizing.
● At least two years of experience in leading campaigns and base building organizations.
● Multilingual and multicultural: especially (but not limited to) Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, and/or Somali. Preferred but not required.
● Washington County resident and/or strong ties and history in the region.
● Ability to travel to meetings and events across the County, Portland, and Salem. ● Availability to work during evenings and weekends as needed.

Grants Associate

Position Description
Unite Oregon is seeking a Grants Associate with .5 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, marketing, and/or development related work. The Grant Associate will brainstorm, write, edit and submit funding proposals for private and public funds; prepare and submit required reports for foundation, corporate, and government grants; research funding prospects that could support current and future programs; and maintain internal systems for tracking progress and deadlines.
Duties include: funder relations and communications; grant administration and management; completing grant reports; completing grant applications; supporting Development team and Executive Director in engaging staff and Board of Directors in fundraising efforts. The role will report to the Grants Director and work closely with the Development Team.
The ideal candidate has strong writing skills and experience with fundraising, writing and preparing grants and grant reports, fundraising, researching and/or securing grants and contracts, donor communications and/or customer services, working in databases, communications with funders and/or customer service experience. Candidates must have experience collaborating with a diverse team and demonstrate a high level of cultural competency. In addition, successful candidates must have the ability and willingness to learn new systems, experience with a fast-paced nonprofit environment, understand racial justice messaging, and be movement-oriented.
Development Position Responsibilities
● Support the Development Team with grant administration and management of 20-25+ active foundation, corporate, and government grants.
● Collaborate with the Development Team to communicate grant activity, timing and reporting needs to program staff and the finance team.
● Collaborate with Grant Director and program managers to collect program data resulting in accurate, timely, and compelling grant reports by designated deadlines.
● Assist with writing and submitting grant proposals through a variety of grant management platforms.
● Maintain and strengthen relationships with funders and assist in funder communications.
● Collaborate with program and organizational leaders to build funding proposals and budgets for ongoing and pilot programming.
● Research and prospect new funding sources, including corporate sponsorships, grant funding, general operating funding and more.
● Work with the Development Team to ensure fundraising goals are met. Support fundraising events.
Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will have:
● 3 - 5 years professional work experience in grant writing, management or fundraising role.
● Some grant writing and reporting experience.
● Excellent writing and editing skills.
● Highly organized, attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
Commitment to racial justice.
● Ability to work with a diverse, multicultural staff, board, membership, and partners of various backgrounds.
● Experience in, or interest in working in an organization that is primarily staffed by and serves immigrant, refugee, and Black, Indigenous, People of Color.
● Good customer service and communication skills; ability to interact with donors, Board members, businesses, sponsors, volunteers, and other constituents in-person, by phone and in writing. ● Database and/or CRM software experience.

Position Description
Three Policy/Political organizers will be hired. This position reports to the Policy/Political Director and Executive Director.
The organizers will work on the Policy/Political team and engage with UO/A members, partners, and staff. They will contribute to, support, and execute policy and political programs that build power for our communities.
Major areas of work include Unite Oregon’s six pillar issue areas and electoral justice.
Position Responsibilities
● Provide support to Policy/Political Director, including finance, outreach, communications, and field. Exact responsibilities will be delegated through a collaborative work plan.
● Work with the department director and team to develop and strengthen UO/A’s policy and political program.
● Work with Policy/Political team, pillar leads and chapter staff to develop community-led policy campaigns in assigned pillar-areas.
● Support assigned pillar-area work across the organization by gathering information necessary to push forward policy changes that uplift the needs and desires of our community members.
● Supportdepartment programs and events.
● Carry out organizing and field activities on assigned pillar-area policies for legislative sessions and campaigns.
● Work with the political director to implement field plans for UOA-endorsed candidates and ballot measures.
● Carry out voter contact and engagement.
● Manage field tasks including but not limited to recruiting, training, and managing project teams.
● Manage field tools like VAN, Bill Tracker, data analysis, OLIS, phone/text bank applications, etc.
● Represent UO/A with partner organizations, coalitions, alliances, and electeds as assigned.
● Lead/Attend to associated committees, commissions, coalitions, tables, projects, bills and campaigns.
● Lead community policy tables, leadership cohorts, and events.
● Support member engagement and recruitment.
● Support financial management and reporting.
● Support grant management, writing, and reporting.
● Oversee volunteers.
● Complete all role specific administrative duties including but not limited to financial reporting, payroll allocations, etc.

● Each organizer will be assigned a government segment, that generally aligns with their chapter work area, to monitor and lobby at. There will be only one lobbyist per location except for the state legislature at which all coordinators will lobby.
Desired Experience

● Demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice.
● Experience in civic engagement and legislative, electoral, or candidate campaigns.
● General understanding of legislative and electoral processes.
● Familiarity with community lobbying.
● Awareness of candidate endorsements.
● Experience participating in political field work including but not limited to phone banking and door knocking.
● Familiarity with latest technology and tools.
● Effective communicator, both written and verbal.

● Strong relationships with progressive movements in Oregon.
● Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
